What to do if you have an evening layover at Honolulu airport?

We are arriving at Honolulu airport on Saturday @ 10:00pm and our connecting flight isnt until the next morning at 5:00am. I have heard that they close the airport and people tried to sleep there but get kicked outside and they even try to sleep in the garden at the airport… but apparently there are sprinklers on timers there?

Debating on staying at a cheap hotel for a few hours and get some sleep, and at least have a safe place for our luggage.. or is it better to try to hang at the airport after our first 7 hour flight there? Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!

  1. I’d get the room with a comfortable bed, hot shower, place for the luggage, etc. You’re going to be tired, and just a little rest will go a long way. Most will even throw in some sort of breakfast.

The couple of times I’ve spent the night in an airport, it was torture.

  2. if your flight gets in at 10, it would be 12am before you could get checked into a hotel. what with airport security first thing in morning taking 1-2 hours, and a 5am flight, that doesn’t leave much time for anything except a moonlight ride to beach and back. good luck.

  3. They do close the airport. If you can store luggage go to Waikiki and have a meal, walk the beach. Relax on the beach and for $10.00 you can go to 24 hour fitness and workout for a bit and then shower.
